Fall 2007

I Love To Go Wauconda'rin!

What a year 2007 has turned out to be for Wauconda. For the first time in the hall’s 90 year history we have been able to hold meetings at the hall all winter long; thanks to the completion of our basement warm room. So much progress has been made this year that we have to say THANK YOU to all those who donated with either their money and/or precious time. Without these two elements, we would not have been able to bring our 90 year old building and property into the 21st Century. Our progress has truly been made possible with the generous out-pouring of love for this treasure, the Wauconda Community Hall that brings our tiny community together. Wauconda should be considered the model for all communities around the world for their dedication to Volunteerism!
This year we have replaced our rotting wood fence with large rocks donated from Columbia River Carbonates (our local “White Rock” Mine). We also added new gates and new metal steps onto the side of the front porch, and we have finally put in our septic system. Wow, we are about to have running water and a flush toilet in our wonderful building.
For 2007, we planned at least one event each month. All of our events have been well attended. This year we simultaneously celebrated our 90th anniversary of the completion of the Wauconda Community Hall with our 93rd Annual Flag Day Picnic. Our next big event was Wauconda’s Fabulous 50’s Sock Hop & Car Show, held Saturday, July 21st. We definitely have put Wauconda on the map with this event. We had between 30 & 40 classic cars, trucks & motorcycles from Washington State as well as British Columbia, Canada, Montana, and Oklahoma. We felt this was a really good turnout for our first car show ever. The evening Sock Hop was a smash hit! We had between 350 & 450 people attend, our dance. Tee & Eddie Productions along with Sean Owsley and Dave Cotton provided us with another spectacular evening of fun and music. Christmas came early to Wauconda once again for the 7th Annual Homespun Christmas Bazaar and we rounded out the fall with our lively annual Pie Auction and Chili Feed the first Sunday in October. This year, the pie auction was bigger and even better with total combined earnings from both the Pie Auction and Chili Feed of $3900. We had over 50 pie and dessert donations to auction off with the top selling “Huckleberry Pie” going for a whopping $250. The hit of the Chili Feed this year was Kathy Rounds’ Taco Soup, and come to think of it, Kathy’s Huckleberry Pie were the all around winners that day. Way to go Kathy and thanks so much for your great donations!
Our meetings and future game nights will once again be held in our basement warm room this winter. Be sure to mark your calendars with the upcoming events listed in this newsletter as 2008 is shaping up to be another busy year here in Wauconda.
